LOL, I have one of those watering cans with all the holes to add more water. Honestly though, typically only during gestation season when they are not passing much waste. The rest of the year they mess in the box often enough to 1) keep it damp - the micro-ecosystem does seem to break down some liquid urates 2) force a change out every two weeks to a month.

I remove any solid waste I find. And if it starts smelling or molding, I change it out. Typical smell would be amonia. Periodically I change them all, like when several are ripe.

And, by far, my favorite time to change the moss is ....
