No easy way out
Share the fun! participate!
I do, participate.
That is the least I can do, and the most unfortunately. I canīt afford a plane ticket to the US even though I know a very sweet girl in NY area who I would like to meet.
I am starting to loose fear in confrontation of AR memes on forum. I have little left to loose.
Last summer I felt compelled to sponsor a vacation for Taggen, a cayman living at the Bergen Aquarium. Those folks may be good with fish, but some of their taste in vivariums smells to me like [bleep].
So I picked up the animal on a busy saturday, but alas, I forgot to tell the staff.
Sunday is the busiest day of the week for Bergen Aquarium, there is a sea of visitors at the zoo, but nobody discovered that Taggen was missing even though he is 1 metre long and is kept alone in his cage.
Monday is a slow day of the week at the zoo, but still the zoo is open to public.
Tuesday morning someone finally found out and by tuesday afternoon I arranged for Taggen to be returned to the Aquarium.
After this I was charged with theft but I claimed innocence and I havenīt heard from the police attourney since.
Before that, in 2004 I turned the other cheek, I was one of perhaps 10-20 breeders in Europe who had adult breeding pair(s) of this subspecies Mount Koghis locale. This is a distinct member of the giant gecko family with itīs own set of behaviors and characteristics. I also lost some 30 other herps, and I got a 4100$ fine from my government.
Now.. there is no way in hell that my geckoes could possibly pose any harm to the norwegian society, and they really cannot populate the semi-tundas of Norway, these are sub-tropical geckoes really.
The going rate for Mt. Koghis leachie babies at the time was somewhere around 7-900 Euros and if I had been allowed to keep my leachies, my adult pair only would have produced somewhere between 4-8 eggs per year, meaning roughly some 3200-6400$ in income wfom one adult pair alone, in the 5 years that have passed I have lost perhaps 13.000-26.000$ on this pair alone, taking in account some inflation of prices...
To you guys that may seem like peanuts but I assure you for me that is a whole pile of money since at present, Iīm broke as a bare back church rat.
Iīm not telling anyone what they should or shoudlnīt do, Iīm merely voicing my oppinion and trying to learn and participate in debate.
I see that you guys are going in the same direction as the norwegian herpetocultural society some 30 years back. I wasnīt around when reptile ban was passed in norway, that is why I try to participate here when you guys have a reptile ban on the way. I think this may help me to understand how on earth such injustice was passed in my country, that lead to autrorities taking my babies away from me. How would you like to get your babies stolen away from you?!
Grr.
You want me to shut up? ...and turn the other cheek? why donīt you do that, so I can take another big bite.
Kindest regards
oby
