Fund raising advice?

I have recently decided to join GVI with a project in south africa and I was wondering if anyone has done any fund raising for something simular. If so do you have any advice on effective fund raising. The one year project and equipment will run over $10,000 USD so this is going to be a very daunting task and any advice would be greatly helpful. Thanks!
