"we should consider that reptile keeping is still legal in the US, and that the government has a responsibility to make educated decisions on behalf of the people."



WRONG. The government has the responsibility to carry out decisions made by the people or the people's representation. The problem is that the beaurocracy is making off with the responsibility and is making decisions of its own accord... many times for the purposes of career sustainability for the government employees making the regulations.
