A couple of interesting points, the same behavior observed from one snake captive raised, and the other wild caught so that’s not really a factor. The reactions are based on something other than hunger. I think it’s really just the individual personality of the snakes. You can see that expressed even in a clutch of hatchlings from the same parents. Some will eat before their first shed, and some might refuse food and die. Ditmars use to really describe habits for each, usually spot on, but haven’t we all seen the “garter snake that thinks he’s a bullsnake…” or something like that. Just when you think you’ve got it down, something comes along to mess with you. Keep noting a sharing your observations. [ Hide Replies ]
