RE: Forget snakes on the plane...

This is something very topical in my life. I received a call this weekend from a gentleman looking to surrender several snakes that he does not even know what they are. From best guess it looks like I have 3 boas, 2 balls and a retic. But hey, he has no clue what they are and he is trying to care for them.



Several things I can suggest.

1. Keep an inventory and cages labeled properly. Forbidding that you die in a fiery crash tomorrow, your wife who wants nothing to do with the animals can be at least prepared to call someone for help. If there are animals of high value be sure that is noted somewhere.



2. Look at herper friends. Do you belong to a herp society? Is there someone who can assist your wife with them until the animals are gone?



3. Contact a reptile rescue and see if they can make a note that you are sending them animals in the event of your demise. Make a notation in your will and remember, rescues operate out of their own pocket. Include some amount of money to cover initial costs as well as caging.



4. Do you partner with any breeders? Ask if they would consider helping in the event of your demise.
