These two aren't ready to mate yet. The male is probably ready or nearly ready but the female is much too small (given that sexing was done properly: see more later in the post). I've just been following along with all your discussions for awhile and I decided to register and join in. I figured I'd start out with a few pics of ours and over time I'll probably tap into the amazing braintrust on hognose information that I've been witnessing on here for some of our eventual questions about mating.



They are both het for albino and come from a line which has been bred with an interest in maximizing red tones. The female exhibits more of a reddish almost deep brick colour. The male is darker than a lot of 'ordinary' hognose snakes I've seen, but noticeably lighter than the female.



Their growth has been hard to track. The female is longer but exactly the same weight as the male. We've been working off the assumption that they're male and female based on 'her' short, stubby tail and 'his' extremely long tail (it goes for miles). That's essentially how they were sexed at purchase. Still though, I expected that the female might be showing more weight gain than the male at this point 8 months in, so I manage to have lingering doubts that we have a pair.
