Individual animals vary and a snake's appearance will change as scales are similar to human fingernails. They are translucent and grow darker as they grow thicker. Check out the toenails of an infant, a 30 yr. old, & an 80 yr. old's toes if you're having problems getting a good visual. I love the Charcoals from SK line, I have some real nice VPI stuff from a classic Jungle line that are really light & stay clean. I have bred my Genetic Banded bloodline into VPIs and hope to see more Banded VPI Axanthics in the future.

I like the Jolliff strain for the Genetic Banding. They can produce some wicked pattern reduction when bred together.

I have also bred out a line of genetic Black Back Jolliff Axanthics that have some intense colouration. They have so much white, I initially had difficulty discerning them from Pastel Axanthics.

Here is a my original female > 10 yrs....

....her > 16 yrs.

....a 2.5 yr. old

....some Het. Albino/Snows I've seen seem to have more yellow/brown or an increase in yellow pigment (?)

while my DH Axanthics (VPI & Jolliff) look almost like an Axanthic as they seem to be missing a layer or layers of yellow pigment(?). The VPI strain does seem to eliminate an additional layer or "more" yellow pigment than the others. It will be interesting to see how Albino/Snow versions of SK Charcoal Axanthics and the mini "Black" Axanthics turn out. I think they are all different & beautiful keys to the puzzle. There are obviously different layers of yellows....I'm really stoked about them being bred into Clowns, Pieds, & Hypos (Ghosts) but can't wait for the Caramels, Lavender Albinos, Bananas, Caramel/Hypos, etc., etc.
