I also recommend opaque plastic boxes. I have used these with some success. I've also used coffee cans (the new plastic ones) and ceramic plant pots. The super cheap terra cotta ones. You can either knock out a small hole around the lip for the snakes to get in and out of or we have had some success cutting them completely in half lengthwise with a masonry cutter on our circular saw. I prefer the pots because of how well they hold heat and moisture without molding.
