This is my first year attempting to breed snakes. I put a pair of gray bands together after brumation. The male seemed scared of the female, so I left them together for the weekend. I didn't observe any mating, but I wasn't watching the whole time either. 2-3 weeks later, the female swells up big time, in the rear half. It looked like she was pregnant, but the timing seemed too early. I gave her a moist hide just in case, and she went in right after shed. No eggs though, and swelling seems to have subsided. My guess is the swelling was ovulation, and that I put the pair together too early and not often enough. Will she pass slugs if not fertilized? Are grey bands capable of second ovulation? Should I keep putting them together thru late spring early summer?

Thanks! Rick
