I've tried everything under the sun, as probably have alot of folks here. Everything has some good and bad characteristics.

For the baby Childrens python, I think your best bet is crumpled newspaper. They can hide in and among it, and heat from below gets trapped in crevices to provide nice basking areas.

Adults will do well on cypress mulch or aspen, or else paper. I have some dimpled Kraft paper from Uline. It is great for heavier-bodied snakes.
