Yep, I was also thinking the same thing.But, I checked them and sure enough it was a pair.I think the reason for the corkscrew action is because the female wasn't interested.She didn't even look like she was ovulating and although I was pretty high up in elevation it is pretty late for this type of action.
I just kinda chalked it up to the wacky ass wheather we have been having.

Anyway, it was cool and I had never seen it before.I have seen 2 males combating before but this was a first.
