I agree with Bighurt. Although, sibling males and females are less likely to fight. I prefer to separate the litters into each sex, once weaned, until they are about 12 weeks of age. Then I'll set them up into their own colonies with one male to 5 or 6 females depending on the size of the tote. Any extra males I have are held over for later, fed off, or frozen for later.
In my experience, if you try to introduce a new male or female to a colony to replace one that expired, the others may very well try to kill it, beat on the new mouse a bit, or be very welcoming to it. It really is a toss up. New males will kill any offspring already in the cage.
