If you take into accounts a great many things you can make your own decision.
-Animals of excess weight with strong strike ability
-Cages in which the animal can lift the glass and pop it out of the track
-Accident prone keeper
-Cage placed in public view within and open room = Safety Glass
If you meet the above you need Safety Glass.
The thing is you just never know when you are going to drop the broom, put a hook through the glass, or miss a flying football or other object. Combined with certain animals I would rather pay the extra for a feature comfort.
Remember if and when you break a Glass door, Safety Glass will still perform its function while you wait for a new piece. Everything else will not.
