Hi,
When I was 12 my mom bought me a burmese python. I had been catching local snakes for about 2 years in southern CA. I had tons of alligator lizzards, king snakes, gopher snakes Striped racers. I even caught a couple rattle snakes but could never get them to eat so I let them go. Now I was 12 at the time. The year was 1981 when I bought this snake. I bought it for like 20.00 dollars. The snake was a baby and I named it Stan. I grew the snake to over 13 feet within a couple years time and I kept him in a jewelry showcase. That snake meant the world to me and eveyone that knew me or anyone that knew I had Stan was ever concerned for their safety. Most people wanted to pet it or just see it or especially see it eat. Well one day I was feeding it and the snake was all the way at the other end of the cage it bit my forearm during a feeding. It was totally my fault and I will never forget that the bite looked like a small shark had bitten me. It was very scary to say the least and I ended up giving the snake up to a breeder in Semi Valley after the incident. It is just funny how at the age of 14 I had the savy to know what I could handle and not handle. How can these total idiots end up keeping snakes that are in my opinion very easy to cage and care for. All the years these snakes have been around and all the sudden they are casted as killers and evil villans. All the news on them lately has been sparking my interest in buying one again as a pet. That snake is always in my thoughts and was one of the coolest pets I ever owned. I would be very saddened to think the government could take our rights away of owning such a beautiful constritor.
