I spoke with my partner from whom I get these guys and here's what he said:

"Alvarezi are thinner, smaller, and the shape of the head is not elongated.

They also live in arid regions but not tropical year round."

Here are a couple pics of the alvarezi I brought in and sold last year... I think I posted them here before...
