I think that is fairly common at least in Texas Rats. I used to breed those guys in years past and a I would always have a handful that would develope a few orange scales on them. I always wondered what would happen if I tried to line breed those animals with the most amount of orange scales. I had a few animals that would develope two or three orange scale. But I then realized how many generations that woudld take to notice a real difference.
