This is wonderful news and USARK has proven invaluable. Without all the work you've done this would have been a serious blow to millions of Americans. We can all let out a sigh of relief now, but I think the news of the results is just as chilling as it is relieving. I don't think 99% of python owners know just how close they came to having their hobbies jeopardized. This could easily happen again and next time they might not just limit the scope to pythons. With as many calls as they got I can't believe they weren't affected.
This is a victory but it should also be a lesson to us all. Without effort the hobby and business is in very real danger. It's not a time to relax... it's a time to rethink the way we keep and sell and put forth a face of reptile keepers to the public. Without more real citizens becoming aware and real reptile keepers joining the fight it's going to be an unsure future for reptile keepers. So if you're a breeder, please ensure that your buyers are responsible keepers who understand care and secure caging of the animals. If they are buying animals that need permits, make sure they have them. Continue with public outreach, education, and spreading the facts instead of the fiction. If you know people who own reptiles, inform them about the dangers and the benefits of joining USARK.
And I may have missed wording but the amendment definitely only stops importation of burmese and african rock, correct? In this announcement it said "limit the scope" to them but I can't remember specific wording on just importation.
Thanks again USARK and congrats. ----- 1.0 sumatran short tailed python
