Posted by: Jeff Clark at Fri Aug 14 11:24:30 2009 [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by Jeff Clark ] My first BRB litter of the year was born this morning. The mother of the litter is RD and the father is Caat99M1. RD had laid about half the litter when I discovered her. She laid the remainder of the litter in less than 10 minutes. There were 24 healthy babies, one stillborn and 5 or more slugs. She was munching down slugs while she was laying the litter. RD was looking very large but did not look ready until just a few days ago when I put a nesting box in her cage. Today is 126 days after post ovulation shed. She had started looking and acting gravid 2 weeks before the post ovulation shed. She is too large and heavy to palpate individual babies so I had no idea about exactly how many there would be. I did expect a total of 25 to 35 based upon her large size and bulk. I was only able to detect fetal heart tones with the Doppler FHT monitor in the last 6 weeks. [ Hide Replies ]
