I read a more recent book dealing with, among other things, the effects of sunlight on vitamin D production in basking reptiles. In a nutshell, sunlight is crucial for certain behaviors and abilities as we all know. Vitamin additives, while somewhat effective, are no match for sunlight, or a suitable UVA and UVB source.
