John,

Yes, "somewhat hypomelanistic" is a weasely term, isn't it. I put it that way because some folks get exercised about claims of this trait or that trait. She does have some true black pigment, but a lot of it is definitely brown. So, if hypomelanistic is like "pregnant", I guess she's a little bit "pregnant". (Actually in other snakes with hypomelanism, I believe there are varying degrees of expression among individual animals (i.e., hypomelanism is not a strictly on/off condition). Whatever be the truth, I like the way the snake looks.
