Laura,

>>The Orlando "Slantinel" has always had a biased reputation and leans heavily toward anti-exotic ownership. It is also liberal Democrat, so anything that follows that line politically is favored by the paper.

This is not a surprise as the Orlando Sentinel is owned by the Tribune Company. The Tribune Company is an “employee-owned media company” that includes publishing and broadcasting business interests. According to their own website information, the Tribune Company lists its “leading daily newspapers” as the LA Times and the Chicago Tribune among others. Its broadcasting group operates 23 TV stations as well as the Chicago Cubs.

Some of the members of the Board of Directors are financially active with political campaign contributions (both individuals and committees). These campaign contributions are a typical who’s who of democrats and moderate republicans for political office. You can research this information for yourself by going to the Tribune’s website, go to the “Board of Directors” page and then type in the names at the FEC’s website (individual search)…You will have to do some background research though to verify the names over time…

Some of the beneficiaries include these campaign contributions include (less than $5,000 but maybe in multiples over many years): Richard Durbin, Russ Feingold, G. W. Bush, Charles Schumer, Jane Harman, Barack Obama, John McCain, Rudi Giuliani, Rahm Emanuel, John Kerry, Patrick Kennedy, Tom Lantos, Christopher Dodd, Richard Gephardt, Bill Nelson, Barbara Boxer, Charles Rangel, Max Baucus, Thomas Harkin, Harry Reid, Debbie Stabenow, Hillary Clinton, Claire McCaskill, Bill Richardson, and Al Gore. Any of these names familiar?

Some of their political action committee (PAC) contributions include (less than $5,000 but maybe in multiples over many years): Our Common Values PAC, Obama Victory Fund, Obama for America, National Association of Broadcasters Political Action Committee (NABPAC), New Leadership for America PAC, Barack for Illinois, Inc., and Leadership ’02 (FKA Friends of Albert Gore, Jr., Inc.).

The largest recipient of “contributions” (soft money) include: DNC Non-Federal Unincorporated Association Account ($100,000), DNC Non-Federal Individual ($95,000), Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee ($25,000), and the DNC Services Corporation/Democratic National Committee ($21,000).

A political “bias” regarding “exotic animals” from this “liberal newspaper” is not a shocker because as the saying goes, follow the money…

Later,

Jim.
