Once the animal is microchipped and registered to the owner, that unique microchip number always traces back to the registered owner.
If the animal is physically located after the theft, and there is a dispute of ownership, the microchip and its registration settles the dispute.
If the animal is scanned by an animal shelter, a veterinarian, or a member of law enforcement, they call our 24 hour 800 number with the microchip number, and we give them the owner contact information. We also contact the owner directly.
The system is unlike "LoJack" for cars, since there is no remote satellite tracking. The animal must be scanned with a microchip scanner.
