Doug,
The fish your talking about is just a catfish, duh. If your interested in subspecies it's called a Surubim, or Shovelnose Catfish, or Tiger Flathead (Psedoplatystoma fasciatum).
Very good eating, and I've had them eat flies for me too, not just bait. We gigged a number of them in these photos. When landed they bark at you in there discomfort, a little unsettling for me at first.

You may like this. Arraia, freshwater Stingray. I had to step on it's tail to retrive my fly from it's back. This Ray was the size of a garbage can lid.


This big dude ate half a Pirana. Double names now Doug?
