Then about 150 yards from where we had just talked there was a freshly hit 3 foot atrox, still wiggling and then about a quarter of a mile down the road from that hit snake, we saw a 3 foot black tail freshly hit and wiggling....No one passed us at all so this State Trooper that i thought seemed cool, turned out to be not so nice and was purposely running over the snakes so we couldnt take any pictures of them.....
It is interesting that we all get up in arms when pulled over by law enforcement and accused of all sorts of criminal activities we are innocent of. I have had LE accuse me of poaching, smuggling illegals, smuggling dope and scoping out farm houses for robbery all while I was just looking for animals to photograph. It pisses me off when people who have no idea what I'm doing or thinking accuse me of wrongdoing.
We also adamantly stand on the position that any LE would have to prove that any animal found in our vehicles while we are out taking pictures was illegally collected.
We really hate it when LE make assumptions about our activities and motivations.
Yet we are the first ones to pile on when there is an unfounded accusation that this State Trooper deliberately ran over snakes just to spite a herper? There are three assumptions here. First of all that he saw the snakes (LE often drive with lights off out there) and then that he deliberately ran them down and third that he did it to piss off the herper.
He didn't assume your story was a ruse to pick up bales of pot out of the river. It seems you don't offer him the benefit of the doubt that he gave you.
Just trying to see both sides. ----- Chris Harrison
