Kevin, I'd go on the hunt for that racer. You say there is no way that racer got out of the cage? Think again. i have one of those critter cages and it came with a warning sticker "not for small snakes" cause they can get out where the sliding top meets the front glass. Though I'm not saying its not possible that it got eaten, its more probable that it got out. Give a small snake the slightest crack or give in a lid and it will get out.

I use fish tanks with two bricks on the top for baby snakes to hold the ends down tight. The adult tanks get clips but clips dont hold the ends down tight enough for the little guys.
