I just posted a comment to this article
http://hsus.typepad.com/wayne/2009/07/exotic-pets.html
"There Oughta Be Laws Against Exotic Pets" from July 2009
and the note that popped up said the comment would be "reveiwed by the author" (in this case Mr. Pacelle himself supposedly - how much does he make a year?), and if approved, would be made public. Let's see how long it takes for my comment to appear.
It's not my best work, but these people piss me off so bad I can't see straight.

"Let's see, 4 human deaths by large constrictors since 2006 - so about one per year from large snakes. SIXTEEN human deaths PER YEAR by dogs. 386,000 hospital admissions per year for dog bites. Have you ever been bitten by a mid-sized dog? I have, and I've worked with large constrictor snakes. The snakes were more managable in the long run. When will you advocate a law making it illegal to have dogs?
The problem with the bills that you are backing is that they are a death sentence for PETS - long-term, beloved companion animals to many - currently legally in possession. The bills don't allow keepers to move to another state or transfer ownership of the animal if needed. Or, they make it so cost prohibitive, or have such outlandish requirements, that a permit cannot be obtained by the current keepers. I am part of the animal welfare nation, but I will fight tooth and nail if you try to make me kill my currently legal pet with laws and regulations. I thank God that my rescued iguana has crossed the Bridge, because every day that I had her, I worried that someone like you would try to take her from me with a new regulation."
