Jay, You need to call your state representative immediately. If you wait until the law is passed, it is too late. Many times the state will hold public forums to discuss matters like this, and get the public input. You need to find out if there will be such discussions, or if your representative will be receptive to your concerns and vote against inclusion of hognose in the proposals. I hope to move to the Naples area in the near future, and would hate to have to get rid of my hoggies.
I have been bitten several times by hognose, usually because I was too slow when getting out of the way of a feeding response
while cleaning a cage. Even though the hoggie drew blood, there was no swelling. However, allowing one to chew on your finger will allow a minute amount of venom to enter the finger, and cause swelling.
