Cage Ideas

Hi everyone, I had a cage idea but I'm having problems with logistics. I saw those large vision tubs for sale and thought they would make a great enclosure for a medium sized water monitor. However, I'm not sure how I should proceed with fashioning a lid. Should it be plexiglas, or solid wood. How do I light it without reducing security. Any ideas, also I would like some advice on heating (i'd hate to melt one of those things). And above all SECURE, my water got out a couple months ago climbed up the chimney and it took me HOURS to finally coax him out. Thanks everyone
