The application of mineral oil does not hydrate the eye at all. Mineral oil will act as a barrier preventing the eye and skin from absorbing oxegen and eliminating toxins. The disruption of allowing oxegen to the skin will soon result in a dry, flaking epidermis.

Snakes do not require any product application, even before photographing. If you want the snakes eyes to look plump, insure it is properly hydrated.
