Yes - illegal to ship snakes via the USPS - you could both be facing federal charges if they've figured out what was in the box and seized it.

Otherwise if properly packaged snakes can spend quite a while in a box without adverse affects. Your major issues are whether it was properly packaged or if shortcuts were taken and if it's got proper heating until arrival (if it hasn't been seized).

Good luck - please use better judgment next time.
