Hmmm, Summer, cross country and 7-10 days. Sounds like you're not driving straight thru? Planning on stops to do sightseeing etc.? driving cross country is not the problem, could do that with an empty belly, some heat and cushioning. Problem I see right away is while you are off sightseeing, the car could easily get too hot.
