It could be an injury, (the colour changing skin will often darken after an injection or burn, etc), fungal or bacterial disease. I would take it to the vet asap. Honestly, every chameleon I've seen brought into the vet clinic has been way past saving. I think it is because they go down hill so fast, and are good at hiding illness/injury from their owners.



After that precaution, on the upside, it is quite possible that it will remain a localized problem and be treated rather well.
