I spent 33 years in the Tampa Bay area and observing indigos from Nov through April was always the most exciting time of year. Do you know or ever known a person known as the "Snake King from the Brownsville area? I obtained several indigos from him in the 70's and I was amazed of how black they were from that area. The ones you photographed reminded me of them. Keep up the great work...I can look at those all day long!!! Thanks Gus.

When I was a kid the King's had a animal facility at the end of the block, maybe 300 feet from my front door.. .

Indigo snakes here are variable, some are clearly closely allied with those more to the south, very brown and rust.. and others outwardly very much like Eastern snakes in color and in scalation. The popular explanation is that King and maybe others brought as many Couperi over here and sold them as they exported Erebennus (and Melanurus) and that our population is a mixture resulted from that trade.
