I doubt that. Whit Gibbons is a well-respected herpetologist - ever hear of the SREL? I've met him once at a diamonback terrapin working group. The man has at least one species named after him (Graptemys gibbonsi). I chat with people who have worked with him. He might not say the brightest things to the press, but I expect this to be a scientific study.
