Gotta love those south Texas "corns"! LOL
It seems that the farther south (in Texas) you go, the buggier their eyes get. I wonder if this is an adaptation for a more nocturnal existence, than more northern localities. I do find meahllmorum during the daylight hours, but mostly in the early morning and late afternoon, in spring and fall - and they can be found on the surface during warm spells, in the winter. During the long south Texas summer (when temps are in the high 90's - low 100's) they become almost completely nocturnal.
Here is a YOY Nueces County specimen, collected by a neighbor, in his yard. Interesting coloration and markings IMHO.
