Daniel and Kevin, good point. I can imagine it coming to that. I've only been keeping for a short while in my adult life and haven't even bred a snake.
Right now my collection is just approaching the point where I might not feel I can keep up with and enjoy as pets. Fortunately I work from home and my office/snake room permits me to spend a lot of time watching, observing and maintaining. The larger snakes get to come out and sometimes spend days free in the room. That to me is extremely gratifying as not only do I get to enjoy watching them do their thing and observe patterns etc. I suspect it actually does lead to brain forming enrichment as they are exposed to many and various stimuli...go ahead, laugh and roast me, but I also think snakes are capable of a pleasure reponse which, as in us, rewards behaviors favorable to selection (not necessarily in the modern age of man of course), e.g., eating, learning, exploration, sex, social etc. And even if I'm a soppy anthropomorphist, I at least enjoy imagining they are grooving as they cruise around. So the snakes get better care and it's a win win thing
All that said, it should would be fun to produce a brood of awesome snakes...that's gotta be the best! Some day soon I hope.
