It sounds like you are referring to Magueyes island, the one island off Puerto Rico with a thriving colony of introduced Cuban Iguanas. Your post renewed my interest and I found this link.

If you google map it, you can get a good view of the island in the satelite mode. The island is so close to shore, I would think that the iguanas are also on the mainland and on nearby islands in that area.
