What makes me think that these folks you refer to probably would not save their own skins due to apathy? The lax view they have towards herpers whos' animals are different from their own. This is the way I look at it--I have specific interests in herps yes, but at the end of the day I know how I would feel if the species I kept were coming under fire, and as such I lend support to all facets of herpetoculture regardless of what they keep (even if I do believe they have no business with such and animal--it is their life after all). Although I do understand what you are saying--if these people individually came under fire, you (or I for that matter) would leave them hanging. Support the whole--but you can pick and choose individuals; and those that are a-holes to others do not deserve support.
