a pic of the milk, she is from a dbl.het. breedings is a sibling to a snow and albino.

the SHORT story...

hatched in '06 whole clutch emerged within 24 hrs all perfect except one.

no biggie...

well after 3 days i started prodding and cutting the egg a lil and out the above snake shot like a bullet still with a fairly large yolk sak attached.

no biggie...

i put her on damp paper towels all is good no kinks jst alot of yolk and understandably a tad smaller than siblings. after 3 days most of the yolk was gone but still to delicate to put on bedding so stay on the paper towels next day she sheds gets a bit hung up the umbilicus but a small snip and all is good except she had an abnomally large belly button.

again no biggie...

keep on p.towels until its shut offer f/t pinks she eats all seems great until...

well the bastage lil carrion gnat flies seemed especially bad that year and when i check her a few days later to my HORROR i notice maggotts crawling in the tub on some waste ive seen this before i know here in houston they can get really bad really fast without diligent cleaning ASAP well when i pick her up i notice they are crawling in her belly button the whole cavity... i actually sqeezed them out like toothpaste (got a visual)

now there certainly comes a time when we all have to make THAT decision to cull or not...

well...

hmmm...

im certain i got them all out...

the animal seems fine at this point it had eaten twice and defecated fine...

SO...

i decided to go ahead and try.

after making sure i had removed ALL the maggots i cleansed the "cavity" with a chlorhexidine wash and packed it with neosporin, kept her on paper towels, she ate and defecated fine took about a full 2-3 months to completely close as time went on she grew and it finally did grow shut albeit a lil crooked she is still small 3-3-1/2 ft. sibs are 4-1/2 to 5ft. so she never did grow quite right and i will certainly NEVER breed her she is our pet.

hope ya enjoyed,,,,,,,,thomas davis
