I just bought an Olympus E-420, it's an entry level digital SLR. Beginner friendly, and has the live view. For the price, it's a great camera and you can ad external flashes, different lenses etc. and has most of the features of the more expensive SLR's.
I was looking at the D3000, and decided not to go with that one because it does not have the live view.
I found the Olympus at WallMart, for $399.00. The lady working the camera department surprised me with her knowledge of cameras, I wasn't expecting that from a Wallmart employee.
This is my first SLR, and it's going to take some time to learn all the different features it has available.
The live view is a nice feature to have, I think it's better to have it when you want to use it, than not have it available at all on your camera.
Olympus E-Series also has the E-520, E-620 and others that might suit your needs better than a entry level camera like the E-420, like I said earlier,...this is my first SLR and I wanted one that doesn't require taking a photography class just to learn the camera functions, and the price was right.
