Just got an email from the Center for Consumer Freedom regarding the First Lady's recent initiative to reduce obesity in America. My comment was: "The problem of obesity is one of the unintended consequences resulting from Big Brother's well intentioned, but misguided efforts at protecting us from ourselves ." Same philosophy/mentality of those that "know what's best" for us -- the Elitist Intellect. Government protecting everyone and everything from any adverse situation that may occur in their lifetime sounds good in principle, but is just not practical in reality. The obesity thing is just one example of the law of unintended consequences resulting from such policies. It sounds good, but exemption from the consequences of personal life choices is such an inefficient model. Just one of the many reasons our once proud nation is in such a depressed/bankrupt state. It is beginning to look like the never ending teat of Big Government has finally run dry. Unfortunately, it's time to pay the piper. Politicians are beginning to run for cover. The people want smaller government. That's fine, but it's going to be as hard as shaking a drug habit, to finally shake loose from the irresponsible "something for everybody, damn the costs" spending spree of our politicians. I believe the worm has finally turned. It's not going to be easy, or a pleasant reality. The first thing we can do to fix our broken special interest serving government, in my opinion, is to enact real campaign finance reform and term limits. jsc ----- "As hard as I've tried, just can't NOT do this" John Crickmer
