I just got home and got this as an e-mail from the Central Florida Herp society. I figured I'd pass it along and let everyone else know. I'll be making some calls on this one. I think everyone else in Fl. should do the same.

Importance: High

Urgent Action Needed to Help Stop the Trade in Large Constrictor Snakes

This year a 2-year-old Florida girl was killed by a Burmese python who
escaped from an enclosure in her home, the latest tragic incident
involving large constrictor snakes kept as pets. When these snakes get
too big and dangerous to handle, people sometimes turn them loose where
they can wreak havoc on our ecosystems. Add this to the suffering of
these snakes in the pet trade, and it's clear action is urgently needed.

On Tuesday, February 16, Florida 's Senate Environmental Preservation and
Conservation Committee will consider Senate bill 318 to prohibit certain
large constrictor snakes as pets in the state. Please make a quick
phone call to the committee chair Senator Constantine at (407)
331-9675. Thank him for placing the bill on the agenda and politely ask
that he protect Florida 's environment, animals, and public safety by
supporting SB 318 to prohibit the importation, breeding, sale, and
possession of Burmese pythons and other dangerous large constrictor
snakes as pets. If you have an extra moment, also send an email message
to him at Constantine.Lee.web@flsenate.gov urging his support for this
important measure.

Thank you for your compassion and action on behalf of animals.

Regards,
Jen Hobgood
