Having won the Republican Primary in Texas, Governor Rick Perry said, "This proves Conservativism has never been stronger than it is today and we're taking our country back".
Perry won the election outright with 51% of the vote, without requiring a runoff, defeating Texas Senator Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina.
