RE: OUR First herp of 2010

...I saw some painted turtles today, but couldn't get close enough to see what subspecies. I think Midland or Southern.

I also saw my first lizard of the year, a Southern Prarie (swift). Good omen! But I got skunked on seeing my first live snake, as two girls saw a Texas Rat & shooed him away from the path. Just before I got there...

AARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Curse the luck. Oh well, didn't have my camera anyway. Did see some cool birds as well.

Great field day overall.
