We don't eat meat daily, and beef only occasionally. We're lucky in that there is a farm nearby that raises grass-fed beef. After tasting it, you wouldn't go back to the grain-fed crap.
If you look at this from a slightly different perspective, encouraging people to eat more fruits and vegetables isn't really a bad thing, given most American's taste for fatty junk food, and the propensity for all the health problems related to the consumption of said junk.
Maybe some of this indignation should be directed at the Catholic Church...Fish on Fridays anyone?... and then look at what the Vatican approves as "fish": sea turtles, among other non-fish critters. So, in some impoverished nations, the consumption of endangered turtles is actually dictated and encouraged by the church. Great, huh?
