By the time I approached the swamp it was pouring so I decided to skip it. No more than an hour north on 441 the rain stopped and sun came out, which clearly prompted some Herp activity. Soon after I found a DOR black racer. Half an hour later I found in quick succession recent DORs: copperhead, red rat and eastern king. The adult red rat's blotches were bright red; the four-foot king a beauty, glossy black with wide and clean white cross bands. Heartbreaking to see. | ||
