Went on a 4-day trip from still-rainy Seattle to sunny AZ last week and fit in two mornings of herping. One while camping several thousand feet up in the Sitgreaves Nat'l Forest near Payson, and another while staying closer in to the Phoenix metro area. Somewhat surprisingly, the latter actually yielded more reptiles.





My amphibian knowledge is a little lacking. Anyone care to help identify these two?

Looks similar to the Common Gray Treefrog (Hyla Versicolor), but from what I can tell, AZ is too far West to fall within it's range.


The second looks similar to a Southwestern Toad (Bufo Microscaphus), but my field guide only shows these as being native to the southern tip of the state.









Fence lizards were everywhere


Western Whiptail, or possibly a Sonoran Spotted?

Chuckwallas were everywhere.

The other snake of the trip was a 4'+ green racer that got away before I could snap off of a photo.
