I have a bunch of salmonella questions for whoever might know something about it:

I was wondering if anyone is aware of cases of snakes picking up salmonella from eating chicks or chicken (or other bird) eggs. There are many species of snakes that eat bird eggs in the wild, and there are also many people who feed chicks to snakes as they would mice or rats.

I know snakes can have problems with salmonella, but are those cases generally reptile-specific strains or from prey?

How about rodents? I know there are cases of salmonella transmission from mammals to humans; is there any reason to consider eggs or chicks more of a transmission risk than rodents and their fecal matter?

Basically I am thinking about using eggs and chicks more in feeding my snakes, and I am trying to evaluate any risks involved.

Thanks!

Billy
