Headed east of the mountains last weekend for some camping and herping near Umtanum, WA.

It’s a beautiful area but seems to get more crowded every year. The University of WA biology department has recently been bringing students herping out here. That would be a good thing if they didn’t leave so many rocks overturned. Not sure if they collect. No gopher snakes this trip, but there are still plenty or northern pacific rattlers, racers, and garter snakes. Enjoy.

My sister even came with us

It was a little too cold at night for anything besides insects, field mice and arachnids.

Northern scorpion

The Northern Pacific rattlers were out in full force.

Smaller adult with light coloration

A well-fed NorPac. At least 30” long.
